Dianne Gall

1964, Adelaide, AU

Australian contemporary Realist painter, Dianne Gall is known for her meticulous and detailed large-scale Artworks that are cinematic, intensely colour saturated oil paintings depicting mostly solitary women.  Working from her private studio, situated 5 minutes from the CBD in Adelaide, a small coastal city of Australia she has been painting for more than 30 years since graduating from the South Australian School of Art and has been focusing on her current Femme Noir paintings, since 2012.

The works are painted from images that Gall painstakingly creates from her staged photo shoots that she carefully sources models and locations ranging from art deco cinemas and private homes to seedy night clubs. The models are dressed in hand sourced vintage clothing and objects, lighting and furniture and tailored to suit the scene.  Once an image is decided upon, it will take many months and sometimes years to finish painting the work.

The scenes in the paintings are in essence cinematic, a frozen moment where you can believe that there was a before and there will be an after to be played out in your mind. Like at the movies you play the part of the passive voyeur, however the stillness of paintings allows your gaze to linger only at the visible.

Dianne’s motto is “Less is more and quality is all”
